HTC UPDATE February 2025
January has been a long busy month for the team with various commitments. We have seen a big spike in rural crime offences namely hare coursing and night poaching so the team have been working alongside our Rural Crime Taskforce. We carried out a late night operation with them on the 29th January alongside colleagues from South and Vale.
9th January – outbuilding of a property in Smitham Bridge was broken into and a large quantity of tools were taken along with a pushbike.
Overnight 13th into 14th January we received two separate reports from residents in Park Street that their shed had been broken into.
Overnight 27th January a workshop in Marsh Lane was broken into and tools along with a 4x4 vehicle were stolen. This vehicle was subsequently found a few days later in a nearby street. The vehicle has been forensically recovered and an investigation is ongoing.
For the month of January
4 reports of Anti-social behaviour. 2 of these relating to rural crime offences.
1 shoplifting from Tesco
4 reports of Criminal damage. 2 of which have been damage to fields post hare coursing.
We are aware of an incident that occurred on the evening of the 2nd February involving a vehicle causing some damage around the town. Crashing into a building and other vehicles. The vehicle was found abandoned on Hungerford Common and has been recovered by Police. Our AIU team have the investigation to progress.
The Team
The current set up of the Hungerford and Downlands Neighbourhood Police Team is 1 x Inspector, 1 x Sergeant, 3 x Police Constables and 4 x Police Community Support Officers.
The team are contactable by email but this should not be used in an emergency or for reporting crime as it is not monitored 24/7.
